"Just as you
did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did
it to me." (Matthew
25:40) The members
of Redeemer want our facilities to serve those in need in the community
at large. Our building is used by many community and local service
organizations, including: The Boy Scouts of America, the Garden Club,
Girl Scouts, Indian Guides, Home Owners' Associations, and CARITAS
without any charge. The role of
the Outreach Commission is to encourage, establish, and support
ministries in our community and the world. At Christmas,
we work with the Peter Paul Development Center to adopt needy families
in order to provide children and adults with new and used clothing and
fulfilling the childrens' wishes for toys or other items. We are
involved with the Congregations Around Richmond Involved to Assure
Shelter (CARITAS), providing food and a warm place to sleep for
homeless individuals and families for one week, usually in the winter
months. We maintain a
food closet, containing items contributed by parishioners, which is
used by individuals who are in need and by the Chesterfield-Colonial
Heights Alliance for Social Ministry (CCHASM) and the Metropolitan
Area Resource Clearing House, Inc. (MARCH) on a regular basis. We support
other organizations, such as Jackson Feild Home for Girls, Virginia
Emergency Families for Children, Virginia Institute for Pastoral Care,
Habitat for Humanity, The Peter Paul Development Center, and Richmond
Chaplaincy Service. Our parish
pledges a percentage of its annual budget to the work of Christ in the
world through contributions to the Diocese of Southern Virginia. We
also give support to the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief. |
